Abstract

Distribution of four indicator bacteria of faecal pollution viz. faecal coliforms, Escherichia coli, faecal streptococci and staphylococci was exminedin seawater and sediment at three port stations of Bhavnagar coast. Faecal coliforms were the dominant organisms followed by faecal streptococci and E. coli, while polution of staphylococci was least. The faecal index for each station indicated pollution of human origin.
