A foundation for any observing system or research initiative is effective and reliable in situ sensor data that accurately tell about key environmental parameters. Progress in any branch of science is heavily dependent on the types and required accuracy of measurements that are needed to describe the status and the processes under investigation. The advent of Argo floats had brought about huge amount of ocean data being generated which is widely put to use from analysis to modelling. This work describes new metrics for analyzing the performance of sensors fitted on to Argo floats deployed by India, in the Indian Ocean. New metrics like Total Data Return, Quality Data Returned, Quality Data Expected and Half Life Period are defined and all the data returned by the floats are checked against these metrics. These metrics gives a comprehensive idea of the overall performance of the floats deployed by India. These metrics can be applied to floats deployed by other countries to assess the performance of their programs
