Abstract

Out of 36 met-subdivisions the entire Indian area has been divided considering climate and administration. The Indian Himalayas occupy five sub-divisions. In the present paper normal monsoon and annual rainfall of each of these sub-divisions and their districts are given. These have been worked out on the basis of rainfall data from 1941-1990 of all the available stations within each district. This study has however shown that which sub-division and their districts receive heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. This information will be useful for forecasting floods in the Himalayan rivers and also for other developmental activities in the meteorological sub-divisions of the Indian Himalayas.
