Abstract

In this study an attempt is made to see which stations in India exceed their mean annual rainfall during any of the four summer monsoon months. Out of 44 stations selected from all over the country, it was found that about 37 stations exceeded their mean annual rainfall mostly in the months of August and September during the 10-year period from 1992 to 2001. However, only 7 stations exceeded their mean annual rainfall in the month of July. No station exceeded its mean annual rainfall in the month of June. It was found that if only summer monsoon months are considered, 29 stations (of the 44) experienced their entire mean annual rainfall mostly in either August or September. The study highlights the importance of summer monsoon rainfall for the Indian region.
