Abstract

The correlations for the concurrent season (SOI-JJA) show a stable and highly significant relationship, whereas the corelations of the previous season (SOI-MAM) with summer monsoon rainfall are marginally significant for few areas of the country. The space and time relationships between the Southern Oscillation and Indian summer monsoon rainfall have potential applications for the understanding and prediction of the large-scale performance of the monsoon.
